The New York chapter of the Screen Actors Guild is the second largest in the country, after Los Angeles. Their Class A space in midtown, on a full floor of the Viacom building, required some alterations due to certain departments relocating to another site. The new departments were installed in the spirit of all the original finishes and details, such that the new work is completely integral with the old. The most challenging aspects of the project were the programming of several departments and new office locations which had to be juggled around new hirings and transfers within the space, and the research to derive the original finishes from a ten-year-old build-out. The circulation corridor which circles the space was continued through the south side, and building code problems regarding the compartmentation of the floor were successfully resolved through a reconsideration with the Manhattan Borough Superintendent.
